The Past and the Future...

The farm, which is over 140 years old, initially operated as a dairy farm. Fifty years ago, the previous owners transitioned to timber farming, planting pine trees. In November 2020, the new owners bought the 63-acre tract, consulted Mississippi State University's Agricultural Extension, and aimed for environmentally friendly renovations.

The property includes oaks and Loblolly pines. The owners focused on climate-sensitive improvements, reconstructing buildings while adhering to environmental guidelines. They established a raised herb and vegetable garden, an orchard, and a chicken coop for fresh eggs. They renovated existing structures: the wood barn, now with a loft and facilities; the cinder block dairy shed into a guest house; and the farmhouse into a modern home with multiple amenities, including asbestos remediation.

Pastureland was created by clearing wild growth and planting Bermuda grass, enclosed with steel fencing, completed in 2021. Plans include transforming dense forest into nature trails, "glamping" sites, building a small restaurant, bar, general store, and adding three tiny houses for visitors.

There is a large live oak in the center of the three existing buildings which is a “Signature Tree” certified by an arborist to be over 100 years of age. It is the centerpiece of the compound.

The owners envision a large farm compound with facilities for rental hospitality and guests. There will be flowers and bushes and brick and mulch or crushed stone paths to access the accommodations and commercial areas. It will be a welcome addition to this farming community in south Mississippi and will be a respite for relaxation and renewal. There will be sick horses being rehabilitated, hens producing eggs, vegetables and herbs to be purchased, guests and customers using the restaurant and bar, and the Owners going crazy with all of this activity and responsibility.
